About Leap Motion

With Leap Motion, you can interact with digital content in virtual and augmented reality, using your hands just as you would in the real world. It is unique combination of software and hardware that tracks the movement of hands and fingers with very low latency, converting in into 3D input.

The leap motion lets us use Virtual Environment in a whole new way

  • Reach out and swipe

  • Grab and pinch

  • Punch your way through the Virtual World

Introduction

  • Leap is a breakthrough in computer and VR interaction
  • Created by Michael Buchwald and David Holz
  • Now we can say good to Mouse and Keyboard
  • It is a new way of interaction

It is just removes the barriers between people and technology

Benight that amazing technology

LEDs, 2 sensors, 1 IC, LEDs are placed mostly to provide a solid, wide-angle infrared flood of the area of interest, rather than to provide any kind of magical illumination pattern like the Kinect uses.

Orion

  • Just last month, in February 2016, Leap Motion released Orion, the next-generation hand tracking tech for VR
  • Features include: lower latency, longer range, better and faster hand recognition, enhanced tracking capabilities, improved robustness to cluttered background and ambient light, and faster applications due to the new API
  • Orion Beta was also released for developers (a quarter million and counting) to build their own experience in VR

Partnerships

  • Asus : In 2013, Leap Motion announced their first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnership with Asus which bundled the Leap Motion controller with its new All-In-One (AiO) PCs and notebooks.
  • Hewlett Packard (HP) : HP embeds Leap Motion control tech into their computers hardware by summer 2013
  • Razer : In 2015 Razer’s OSVR headset now comes with the option for on-board, Leap Motion support which means developers won’t have to rewrite much code to add motion support to their titles
  • Retail Partnerships with Best Buy, Newegg, and Amazon.com

Beyond Gaming

Education :

  • In the Czech Republic, the World of Comenius project taught a biology lesson that featured Leap Motion controllers with Oculus Rift DK2 headsets.
  • In other areas of education — primarily hard sciences like biology, anatomy, geology, and astronomy VR tools are used to construct architectural models and spatial renderings to enrich education with the ability to interact with dimensional objects
